Authenticator apps are apps that generates 2FA codes that can be used as an additional security requirement to perform actions on your online accounts, such as your account at Bitvavo. These apps generates a dynamic 6-8 digit one-time password (OTP) that is required in addition to your username and password when logging in.

Common used authenticator apps are Google Authenticator or Authy, but there are others available as well.

How to set up an Authenticator app for Two-factor Authentication (2FA)

1. Login to your Bitvavo account.

2. Click on your name at the top-right corner of your screen and choose Settings

3. Go to the header “Security settings” and press on the button “Enable” next to “Two-Factor Authentication” and fill in your password

4. Download “Google Authenticator” or “Authy”.

5. Open the downloaded authentication app on your device and either (1) scan the QR code provided, or (2) manually enter the secret code.

6. Enter the numeric code that appears in the downloaded authentication app, and click the “Confirm” button. Your recovery code can be used to generate the same 2FA codes. Saving your recovery code is useful for when you lost your device. Do not share your recovery code with anyone!

7. Congratulations, you have successfully set up 2FA your Bitvavo account! You are now required to enter a 2FA code when logging in, withdrawing funds, or performing security related actions.

Security Tip: If the device that your authentication app is on has been lost or stolen, your account is at risk of being compromised, especially if your email account can be accessed from that device. In this situation, you should immediately log in to your account to make the necessary changes to your account settings. If you are unable to log in, contact the Bitvavo Support team by opening a support ticket to have your account temporarily disabled.
